Green Energy @ siticom: Sustainable digitalization through innovative projects

At a time when the energy transition and digitalization are closely intertwined, siticom is one of the leading providers in the development of sustainable solutions. The challenges of the energy transition require innovative approaches that focus on both efficiency and environmental friendliness. Through forward-looking projects and strategic partnerships, siticom is setting new standards in digital infrastructure, which plays a major role in the transformation to a sustainable and intelligent energy and mobility landscape.

This article provides an insight into siticom's major initiatives that are paving the way for both green energy progress and smarter cities.

siticom & 5hine: Control of heliostats in Jülich via 5G

The “5hine” project aims to use 5G technology to optimize the control of heliostats in solar thermal plants at the Jülich site. siticom has set up a 5G network specially developed for remote, industrial applications such as solar thermal energy. Wireless communication with drones, camera systems and other devices significantly improves the efficiency and maintenance of such systems. The successful establishment of end-to-end connections marks an important milestone for the use of 5G in the renewable energy sector.

Under the leadership of siticom, partners such as DLR, TU Dortmund University and Condor Multicopter & Drones, Leikon and Synhelion are working to increase the efficiency and functionality of solar tower power plants. These plants consist of a large number of movable mirrors, known as heliostats, whose control is facilitated by the innovative 5G network. Wireless technology offers enormous advantages over conventional cabling, particularly in large-scale industrial plants, in terms of monitoring and controlling the systems.

With the successful integration of 5G into solar thermal energy, the project is making further progress. Important milestones such as network coverage and end-to-end communication have already been achieved, increasing the sustainability and cost efficiency of energy generation. “5hine” is thus making a decisive contribution to the development of a CO₂-neutral energy landscape and has the potential to advance the German renewable energy sector worldwide.

siticom & Bayernwerk: Smart grids for a stable energy supply

Another important project is the collaboration with Bayernwerk, one of the largest energy suppliers in Germany. They are working together on the development of smart grids, i.e. intelligent electricity networks that optimize energy distribution. These grids are able to control the flow of energy in real time and thus better balance out fluctuations in energy production from renewable sources. This is a decisive step towards ensuring the stability of the grid even with a high proportion of renewable energy.

For the project with Bayernwerk, siticom is actively supporting the energy transition through efficient grid planning and implementation of medium and low-voltage lines. The focus is on replacing old overhead lines with modern underground cables and expanding the power grid to cope with the increased energy demand.

siticom takes on comprehensive tasks ranging from the procurement and analysis of suitable maps to detailed route planning using GIS tools such as QGIS and AUTOCAD. Plausibility checks and on-site surveys ensure that the planned routes are feasible and accurate. In addition, siticom takes care of the legal aspects, including the negotiation of permission agreements with landowners and the preparation of all necessary documents for the approval procedures.

A major advantage for Bayernwerk is the provision of highly qualified experts in the areas of planning, surveying, construction supervision and routing, which enables seamless project execution. The supra-regional availability of siticom's services also expands the scope of action and ensures efficient implementation of projects, regardless of location.

siticom & Comfortcharge: electric mobility for the future

The aim of a modern expansion of the charging infrastructure in Germany is to create flexible and efficient mobility solutions by using smart infrastructure concepts based on digital technologies such as IoT and AI. These technologies enable the networking and optimization of charging infrastructure, which ensures demand-oriented use and easy scaling.

As part of a Germany-wide expansion project for Comfortcharge, siticom is working intensively on expanding the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Comfortcharge currently operates public fast-charging infrastructure at over 240 locations throughout Germany. The special thing about this is that they set up their charging infrastructure on Telekom's own properties, use existing infrastructure and offer an overall sustainable charging experience with 100% certified green electricity.

As general contractor, siticom takes on comprehensive tasks from planning and construction to implementation management, including subcontractor management and coordination of the entire rollout. Following a successful pilot project in Berlin, site projects are currently being implemented in various regions. The customer's property locations are being expanded with DC charging stations and/or AC charging facilities.

As part of this rollout, siticom advises on finding site-specific solutions, carries out planning in all planning phases including the approval processes and detailed planning, realizes the electrical engineering implementation and the structural implementation including all in-house work, civil engineering and other necessary structural adjustments such as fence and gate work in its established partner network.

The close cooperation with the siticom partner network and the efficient management of projects make a significant contribution to advancing electromobility in Germany and creating sustainable mobility solutions for the future.
